IPTV, short for Internet Protocol Television, is the transmission of television content over Internet Protocol (IP) networks. Unlike traditional terrestrial, satellite, and cable TV formats, IPTV enables continuous streaming of source media. Consequently, a client media player can promptly commence playing the content, such as a TV channel, upon request, a concept known as streaming media. Although IPTV utilizes Internet protocols, it extends beyond Internet-based television streaming. IPTV finds extensive application in subscriber-based telecommunications networks, leveraging high-speed access channels to deliver content to end-user premises via set-top boxes or other customer-premises equipment. Additionally, IPTV serves as a means for media distribution within corporate and private networks. Notably, IPTV in the telecommunications sector undergoes ongoing standardization efforts, exemplified by initiatives such as those led by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
